The Romanian Institute for the Study of the Asia-Pacific (RISAP), a non-governmental think-tank, was founded in 2014, with the goals of strengthening Romania's understanding of the Asia-Pacific region through research and analysis, informing the Romanian public about the developments in the region, and nurturing the future generation of Romanian experts who specialize on the Asia-Pacific. In the years since its founding, RISAP has began to inform and educate the Romanian public about the Asia-Pacific region and Romania's relations to it, has organized conferences and events about this region, and has organized a yearly summer internship to train and familiarize young Romanian students and graduates with the Asia-Pacific. RISAP publishes Romanian and English language articles and analyses about events and developments in the Asia-Pacific region on its website.

One of RISAP's most important areas of interest is China, its relations with Romania and Europe, its foreign policy and the Belt and Road Initiative. Many of our researchers and collaborators specialize on the research of China, have studied in China or speak Chinese. RISAP's researchers have closely followed and studied the evolution of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 16+1 China-CEE format over the past three years. RISAP has also organized events in Romania about these subjects.
