International Academic Forum on China and CEECs’ Cooperation

Sponsored by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the People’s Republic of China, cohosted by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Hebei University of Economics and Business (abbr .: HEUEB), organized by International Business Research Institute of CEEC, HUEB, the International Academic Forum named: “Communication, Sharing, Cooperation and Win-Win: Promote New Think-tank, Construction, Propel Deeper Hebei-CEEC Cooperation” was held at the International Academic Hall of HUEB on June 29, 2017. Think-tank experts and University representatives from 13 CEECs: Czech, Albania, Poland, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovakia, Latvia, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Serbia, and counterparts from Chinese government, universities and R&D Institutions, more than 80 people attended the forum.


The theme of this forum focused on how to promote development of new think-tanks, boost Hebei comprehensively to participate “16+1 cooperation”. Chen Liang, member of the Standing Committee of HUEB Party Committee and President of the IBRI, presided over the opening ceremony.  Ji Lianggang, vice party secretary and president of HUEB, delivered welcoming speech. Liu Zuokui, the director of 16+1 Think Tanks Network and the director of the Division of Central and Eastern European Studies, Institute of European Studies, CASS, was present and also made a keynote speech. Amel Kovacevic, chairman of the Bosna Bank International, former Bosnia and  Herzegovina Ambassador to China, Marek Hrubec, dean of the Global Research Centre, Institute of Philosophy, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Viktor Eszterhai, senior researcher of Hungarian Pallas Athene Geopolitical Foundation, Patrycja Pendrakowska, dean of the Poland Asia Research Centre, Dragan Pavlicevic, senior researcher from University of Xi'an Jiaotong– Liverpool, Shang Yuhong, deputy dean of CEE Research Center, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Ma Xiaoyun, Phd. from IBRI of CEEC, HEUEB, made subject speech respectively.

Ji Lianggang, vice party secretary and president of HEUEB, introduced HEUEB to the guests and highly praised the jobs done by the IBRI of CEEC, HEUEB, in promoting the “16+1 cooperation”. Ji remarked that the IBRI of CEEC devotes itself to train “China Hands” in CEECs and “Experts on Europe” in China, aiming at strengthening development of think tanks and boosting cooperation between local governments and CEECS. He said the the IBRI of CEEC, HUEB, would continually provide intellectual support for “16+1 cooperation” and improve the think tanks exchange s and cultural communication between Hebei and CEECS in the future.


Liu Zuokui said, this year is very important to the cooperation between China and CEECS. The think tanks exchange and cooperation was one of the important aspects for 16+1 cooperation. He hoped more and more universities and scholars would take part in the career of think tank development, and offer advice and suggestions for 16+1 cooperation.

Representatives present at the meeting made a heated discussion about the progress, difficulties, and challenges in the think tanks construction, political, economic, business and humanity communication and cooperation between Hebei and CEECs. They thought, in general, think tanks construction and cooperation between Hebei and CEECs have a good development momentum and optimistic outlook. The two sides should move forward to be more open and transparent, promote humanity exchange, and lift the cooperation level.
